The floods in Punjab created catastrophic damage, which has not been witnessed in years. Whole villages are underwater, crops have been destroyed, and thousands of households have lost their homes. Low-lying areas like Jalalpur Pirwala, Sargodha, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Bhakkar, and many others were worst hit. When the floodwaters began rising, the households had to leave behind all that they had worked on for years. Years of crops were destroyed in a few hours, and farmers did not even have a meal to sustain their families. Houses were inundated, and women, children, and the elderly were forced to live in tents in the open air.
At Khubaib Foundation, we knew we had to act now. Our staff elements took to the rescue mission on the first day of the crisis and rushed to the most affected areas to save lives and offer help. We have also provided thousands of food packs, clean drinking water to prevent disease, and emergency shelters to save the lives of the displaced with the help of volunteers and partners. Our physicians cured flood ailments, and rescue teams continued to take people to safety. Each district we visit displays more families in dire situations, families starving, children drinking unclean water, patients requiring immediate attention, and people having no roof above their heads. The crisis has not ended, and without further assistance, the misery of people will only increase.
The road ahead is long. Months or years will be required to recover and rebuild. Khubaib Foundation will continue to work with them through rescue, relief, and rebuilding, but we cannot do it alone.
