As part of their efforts to promote youth participation in sport, the Pakistan hockey team, along with Olympic greats Tahir Zaman and Muhammad Usman, took time out of their schedule to visit Khubaib School and College Haripur. The purpose of the PHF visit (Pakistan Hockey Federation) was to encourage orphan students to take interest in sports, and in particular, field hockey.
The delegation comprising of national players, coaches, senior officials of PHF, and other staff members engaged the students throughout the day with live hockey sessions, personal story sharing, and mentoring. Such events aim to equip young sportsmen and women with basic skills and encourage them to channel their energy in a constructive manner through sports.
“In our society, we tend to forget about what lies beneath. As former athletes, it is our responsibility to give back to the community. These kids have so much potential, that with just a little guidance in the right direction, they can do wonders not only in their daily education but in sports as well,” said Tahir Zaman, former Olympian and a key player during Pakistan’s golden era in hockey. The visit ended with a light-hearted match along with gifting of souvenirs and an agreement to pursue the same kind of partnerships in the future
